Hannah Randall

Chair of the Board of Trustees/Member/Safeguarding Board Member

I have been affiliated to schools in Plymouth for many years in a range of roles, from class teacher and member of the development group for the Southernway Federation, to chairing the governing body prior to the formulation of Discovery MAT.

Throughout my time in governance for the Southernway Federation, my focus has been on developing the quality of teaching and learning in school as well as monitoring the effectiveness and impact of provision across the schools.

My role as a Trustee for Discovery MAT will now involve working in collaboration with the Board and CEO, to ensure we develop and drive a strategic development plan , to steer Discovery MAT into becoming one of the leading educational establishments in the city. Special Educational Needs has been an area of specialism in my own profession, and I will continue to support the MAT with this area in my role as Trustee.
I firmly believe in establishing strong links with our parents and local communities, both at Board level and within the Local Advisory Board, to ensure that all of our children can aspire to be the best that they can be.

Steve Evans

Vice Chair/Health & Safety Trustee/Audit & Finance Committee

I have lived in Plymouth all my life and achieved my primary, secondary and higher education within the city. I am married with a son, who currently attends one of the schools within Discovery MAT.

My background is in Architecture, Project Management and Inclusive Design and I am currently employed as an Area Supervisor in the Street Services department at Plymouth City Council. This involves managing the team that is responsible for day-to-day street cleansing and grounds maintenance within my specified area as well as liaison with Councillors and Senior Managers.

I completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Leadership as well as completing a Leadership Programme within Plymouth City Council and am also part of the Plymouth City Council Coaching Network.
I served 2 years as a Neighbourhood Liaison Officer for Derriford West & Crownhill which involved meeting with local residents as well as Ward Councillors and the local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) to jointly address neighbourhood issues.

I have developed a keen passion for continual improvement along with community, pupil and staff engagement and feel extremely privileged to have served as a co-opted Governor for the Southernway Federation since September 2014.

I am excited about being appointed to the Board of Trustees and remain focused on achieving the highest standards for our children by using skills that I have developed throughout my career in both the private and the public sectors. I look forward to being involved in setting the strategic direction for the MAT.

Alison Nettleship

Chief Executive Officer/Executive Headteacher/Trustee

Born and raised in Plymouth, I attended Notre Dame School for Girls before leaving to go to University In Middlesbrough. After completing a Foundation course in Accountancy and a Degree in Business and Finance, I worked for Coutts Bank, part of the Natwest Group, in International Banking. After two years I moved back to Plymouth to start a family and worked as an analyst for Milk Marque, supporting farmers to get a fair price for their milk.

After having two children, I trained as a teacher, with a specialism in Early Years and Maths and began working at Calstock school. During this time I completed my NPQH (Headship training) and five years later was appointed as a non-teaching Deputy at North Prospect Community Primary School. I took up my Headship at Weston Mill after two years and moved the school forward in many areas, but in particular on standards. During this time I have also trained as an Ofsted Inspector (Primary and Early Years) as well as supporting other schools through the Plymouth Teaching School. I sit on the Board of the Teaching School (school-to-school support) and Plymouth Excellence Cluster.

As Chief Executive Officer, I greatly value the contribution made by the Board of Trustees in steering the direction of Discovery MAT, and helping us to realise the MAT's vision and values.

I am married with four children and live in the Tamar Valley. My time outside of work is taken up with supporting my children’s hobbies and walking our family dogs.

Jade Harris

Trustee/Audit & Finance Committee

I have lived in Plymouth all my life, attending primary and secondary school in Plymouth. Since leaving school, I have developed experience within the IT and hospitality sectors.

I have three children, two of which attend one of the academies within Discovery MAT. I was a parent governor since for Weston Mill since 2014, going on to be Vice Chair of Governors. During the academy conversion process, I was also the MAT Governor, serving as a point of contact for parents and carers, before becoming a Trustee for Discovery MAT.

I love being a parent of my three children and find myself growing and learning with them everyday.
I have a passion for learning anything new and love to be challenged, and enjoy following my interests in music, sports and science, especially space.

I would say I'm a little different to the other Board Members in terms of professional work outside of the MAT, but I am fully committed in working to produce the best MAT possible for all three academies, and I am very much looking forward to seeing this develop.

My promise as a Trustee is to always give my honest opinion and stand my ground when needed, in favour of doing the right thing for Discovery MAT.

Lisa Drummond

Trustee/Chair, Audit & Finance Committee

I have two children who attend one of the MAT’s academies, Oakwood Primary Academy, in year 2 and year 5, and I have always tried to play an active role in my children’s school life. I am relatively new to the role of Board of Trustees and I am looking forward to seeing what my contribution can be. I work as a HR Manager for a large manufacturing site in Plympton, Plymouth and I hope the skillset I use in the workplace will inform my role on the Board for Discovery MAT.
